Go Kits - Items needed for emergency response and how to put them together
Being prepared for a disaster takes on a new meaning if you intend or are expected to provide emergency communications! One never knows what problems or obstacles will need to be overcome, but preparing a kit that is easily transported and "ready to go" can be the most important preparation you can make - hence the term "Go Kit".
In order to save you the time and trouble of trying to think of everything you might need for any possible situation, the links below lead to two checklists set up to take into consideration the length of time you expect to be in an emergency communications support role.
We would like to express our thanks to Frank O'Laughlin, WQ1O, who has assembled these lists based upon his numerous years as the ARES Manager for Cape Cod ARES - an area that is frequently threatened by winter nor'easters and summer hurricanes.
For a 24 hour deployment, please refer to this list: http://www.mtara.org/sites/default/files/24hrkit.pdf Note, this list also includes a "Safety List" intended for your personal safety and should be included in your 72 hour kit as well.
For a 72 hour deployment (or a period greater than 24 hours), please refer to this list: http://www.mtara.org/sites/default/files/72hrkit.pdf
